What happens to all the milk jugs that have been recycled throughout the years? In 1990, in a garage in Northern Indiana, an innovative idea was taking shape. High school friends noted the high performance characteristics of plastic and its use in outdoor applications. Doug Rassi (President) and Mark Phillabaum (Sales), founders and owners of Poly-Wood, Inc., discovered they could extrude recycled milk jugs into plastic lumber. That lumber could then be used to design and build outdoor furniture with fundamental performance qualities. Since 1990, Poly-Wood has been the leader in developing casual outdoor furniture with plastic lumber. Today Poly-Wood occupies over 900,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space between two facilities. One in Syracuse, Indiana and the other in Roxboro, North Carolina.200,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Our plastic lumber extrusion process is modern and efficient. Seaside EnviroWood furniture is made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), a recyclable plastic that will never need painting or staining. It will not rot or splinter, and contains an added UV inhibitor to resist fading. HDPE is not affected by most corrosive substances, and will not absorb moisture or promote bacterial growth. To maintain the furniture clean regularly with soap and water. Stainless steel fasteners used to assemble furniture are virtually maintenance free under normal conditions. However, in coastal areas hardware will require regular rinsing with fresh water to avoid rusting. Do not use chlorine-based cleaning products on the stainless steel.
